We’ve called Aspen our home away from home for many years now. In addition to the dozens of custom skis that are built and sent up to the Aspen valley from our Denver production facility every year, Folsom Custom Skis has also had a longstanding relationship with Aspen Skiing Company. In 2014 we had the pleasure of building 80 pairs of custom skis for Ski Co.’s executive employees and demo use, and more recently we supported Aspen Snowmass’s ‘Give A Flake’ campaign by building out a small fleet of custom skis with graphics and messaging in support of the initiative.
If we were to associate with any ski town, it would certainly be Aspen, so when we started brainstorming places to have a stronger presence and better accessibility to the customer, the answer was clear. To Aspen we went.
Open as of November 4th is Folsom’s first ever dedicated showroom and sales office in Aspen, CO. The idea follows the “popup shop” concept, meaning that the space will only be occupied from November through April. The shop is based at Aspen’s premier bike shop, the Hub of Aspen which is located at 616 E Hyman Ave. Given Aspen’s lack of mountain biking in the winter, [owner] Tim Emling and the Hub were nice enough to sublease part of their floor space for Folsom to display a line of our stock skis, plus front and center desk space for custom fit consultations.
The new Folsom popup will offer three main components. The first (our bread and butter) is a full custom build, however it’s not just any custom build… Ordering through our Aspen location, your custom skis are eligible for a 2-day turnaround time. Yes, you read that right – custom skis designed and built for you in just 2 days. (Note: to qualify for the 2-day turnaround, order must be received by 3pm MST, Sunday shipments are not available.)
If you’re looking for skis on the spot, you can buy from our Signature Series which is comprised of the shapes we feel are most applicable to the skiing in Aspen (Spar 88, Rad Dad, etc.). The Signature Series construction styles are our “demo” construction for each shape, paired with a standard graphic of our choosing.
Lastly, you can demo any of the Signature Series shapes if you’d like to try before you buy. Demos will run at $50 / day with up to 3 days worth of demo costs being eligible to put towards either a Signature Series or Full Custom Build purchase.
Sharing the space with Folsom is Cripple Creek Backcountry, a well known name in the industry for uphill and dedicated backcountry / touring equipment. Cripple Creek’s ski wall is mainly comprised of “ultralight” skis, bindings, and boots, which we feel compliments our offerings nicely. Rounding out the space is the Hub of Aspen who’ll remain active in the bike space through the winter, offering bike rentals and sales upon request (primary fat tires and e-bikes).
Being in a shared space like this, doors will be open 7 days a week and if there happens to be no staff behind the Folsom desk the moment you walk in, fear not, custom fit appointments can be setup and completed within about 30 minutes with our local staff. Folsom hours are targeted to be Tuesday through Saturday 8am to 6pm, and Sunday 8am to 4pm during which the location will be staffed around the clock.
As expected, we are thrilled to be involved at a deeper level in the Aspen community, and can’t wait for the season to kick off.
