CNC Machines – Built in the USA

old vs new folsom skis cnc machines, built in the usa

Folsom Skis have been 100% manufactured here in our private facility in Denver, Colorado since day one. Manufacturing in house comes with a massive amount of complications and increased overhead. That said, we feel strongly that relying on overseas manufacturing was not the way we wanted to serve the skiing community. We decided nearly 20 years ago that “Made in the USA” would become synonymous with Folsom Skis in this industry. We have invested heavily in our equipment, facilities, and team to make the highest quality skis available made right here in the good ol’ US of A.

Today we’re excited to highlight a new(ish) piece of equipment we’ve added to our facility. About 2 years ago we purchased a new CNC machine. We now have a new Shop Sabre and our trusty old Shopbot on our production floor. Both of these pieces of equipment are made in the USA. We choose to support American manufacturing in every medium possible. Here are some fun metrics to detail the difference of these machines and the efficiencies we have gained with our new addition:

Folsom Custom Skis has been utilizing a CNC since day one. “CNC” Stands for Computerized Numerical Control. More or less all that means is we can write a tool path or profile then the CNC machine will execute that cutting action within .001mm of accuracy. Mastering the use of these machines is not easy however it is absolutely necessary when building precision parts. Skis need to be very precise on snow which means they need to be manufactured in a very accurate manner. We have slowly been investing in the future of our business at Folsom in order to make sure our skis have and always will be built in the USA.
