🚨 New Shape Alert: The Spar 88 🚨

Folsom Custom Skis is proud to announce the release of an all new frontside / carving shape for the 2018/19 season dubbed the Spar 88. Earning its name from a classic high-speed carving run at Aspen Mountain, the Spar 88 incorporates a similar geometry to our award-winning Blue Note Carve but adds in a slightly more playful turning radius plus room for more modern rocker / camber profiles which are included on any custom build. Lastly, the tip and tail shapes took on new, more elliptical design that makes turn initiation less “grabby” and more intuitive and user friendly.

Measuring in at 132.88.116 mm, the Spar 88 is readily available in the following lengths:

  • 186 cm, 182 cm, 177 cm (17 m radius)
  • 176 cm, 172 cm, 167 cm (15 m radius)

A shorter, female-specific construction with lengths ranging from 166 cm to 157 cm may become available starting in the Fall of 2018 if demand is high enough.

“The Blue Note Carve has been the frontside staple of our lineup since the inception of the Company, but it was overdue revamp” says Max Tabor, Folsom’s Director of Business Operations. “The new geometry of the Spar 88 gives our customers the same outstanding hardpack performance, but allows us the press the ski in a variety of additional rocker / camber profiles which makes the ski exponentially more versatile.”

The Folsom team got a chance to test the all new Spar 88 this spring during it’s prototyping phase. “From the moment I stood on this ski I noticed the amazing amount of energy that it created when arcing a turn while maintaining a smooth connection with the snow” said Folsom President Mike McCabe. “The rebound was so immediate yet controlled allowing total dictation over the turn shape I wanted to make. Mixed snow and terrain were navigated with ease as the Spar is a very precise platform with just enough rocker integrated to glide easily over anything I put in front of it. This ski really had the perfect balance of energy, precision, damping and power.”

The Spar 88 is the perfect shape for any traditional skier looking for the modern <90 mm underfoot ski. It can navigate hardpack conditions with confidence but given its 132 mm tip width and progressive rocker / camber options, it can also handle softer snow and sidestashes with ease.
